“my Siter And I Had A Very Pleasant Stay”
both David and John made us feel very welcome, the care and service was exelent, we especially liked how they looked after the wild life, after all they live there and everyone else just visits. I have adopted some of the things I learnt from them and using it in my own garden.

The room was of an adequate size bed very comfortable, breakfast as much as one could eat.

overall a very pleasant stay in a great location, would recomend it to anyone who wants to visit Dartmoor and surrounding area

Lovely Place, Lovely Hosts, Great Food.
Room was large, airy and clean. Bed was exceedingly comfortable, slept like a log. Then breakfast. What can I say. Probably best breakfast ever, sausages were great, good choice of everything, all good quality. Thoroughly recommend this place. David and John are great hosts, very helpful and very chatty.

Such a lovely relaxed stay. A very quiet and picturesque village which makes a great place to wind down. David & John have a spotlessly clean B&B, provide a hearty and excellent breakfast. In addition a friendly welcome and attentive service. I would recommend this as a great place to stay in Devon.

Lovely Cozy Stay
Stayed here three nights in a twin room , beds amazing quality and really comfortable, 5 star hotel quality bedding , the room well organised with sockets , hanging space etc .

The bathroom had a lovely shower , exceptionally clean , nice organic bathroom products , fluffy white clean bright towels.

Lovely view over the gardens to the surrounding county side.

David and John were perfect hosts , nothing was too much trouble for them , they provided dairy free milk for me and even had some super glue to fix my glasses that broke during my trip !

They really made our stay that extra bit special with their bright personality’s !

I would definitely return .

Stay At Overcombe House
We stayed at Overcombe House for 2 nights when visiting the area for a friend's party. We had a great time the online booking system is very efficient providing a prompt response and confirmation email, David and John are attentive and knowledgeable hosts. We had a room with a beautiful view over the Moors and there is a wildlife garden complete with plentiful bird life and visiting hedgehogs. The beds are very comfortable the rooms are clean and tidy with an excellent and locally sourced breakfast fast WiFi is an extra bonus - a very pleasant stay.

Most Enjoyable Stay
My wife and I stayed in early August 2017. The hosts are very nice and friendly people, and the breakfasts are amazing. At the time of writing the breakfast menu is more extensive than on the website - for example my wife had lox bagel, which came with generously piled smoked salmon. I pigged out on the traditional breakfast which had particularly delicious bacon and sausages.

The only thing which we would have changed was the pillows, which were rather hard.

All in all, a most enjoyable stay.

The bed was large, spotlessly clean & comfortable. Attention to detail was obvious with the toiletries and tea making facilities with everything you could need in the room. David & John made us feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast was one of the best we have experienced again, with the quality of the ingredients shining through. We would have no hesitation in staying again and would recommend anyone looking for a quality b & b at a very reasonable price to give it a try.

We enjoyed our stay for 3 nights in this house.

Very comfortable room with attention to detail and quality as : comfortable bed, easy to arrange the heating, coffee pads instead of instant coffee, a range of tea and sweets, a personal letter with useful information, ecological toiletries.

Breakfast is perfect: with organic products of top quality, a lot of options for the cooked breakfast, freshly cooked and very tasteful. Coffee and tea in a pot that keeps your tea or coffee warm.

The hosts look after you very well; they even take care af your wet clothes and shoes in order to dry them.

We returned to the Overcombe again this year because it offers us everything we want. The hosts, David and John are so welcoming and friendly without being over the top. A refreshing cuppa and yummy biscuits when you arrive served in the dining room overlooking the garden full of birds and looking out to the moors so you feel your holiday has started. The bedrooms are excellent, clean to a very high standard, light and comfortable. Beds really comfortable. Bathroom has everything down to the littlest detail. In the morning breakfast is cooked as required and to personal preference John is excellent chef. Just back from 4 nights in Overcombe House and can highly recommend it. David and John were welcoming, caring hosts, always wanting to ensure that we were happy, and accommodate our needs. They are knowledgeable about the area and can help and advise visitors. Our room was spotless, very comfortable bed and lovely thick towels. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room are enhanced by the availability of flasks of fresh milk in a fridge in Reception, so much nicer than those plastic pots of long life milk in most places. We were downstairs and had a lovely view across the garden to the moors beyond, and I can see that the view upstairs must be fantastic. Breakfasts were wonderful - only fruit, juice and cereal is left out to serve ourselves, everything else is cooked to order, and there is a lovely selection. We enjoyed full English, scrambled eggs with bacon and poached eggs with hollandaise sauce and bacon or smoked salmon. The toast was presented fresh and crisp, and the tea, in lovely teapots was real leaf tea. All in all a great place to stay.

Welcoming
David and John are perfect hosts and made us feel very welcome immediately. Our room was very comfortable with splendid views. The breakfast room is lovely as are the breakfasts (cooked using local produce) with the added bonus of watching the antics of the wild birds attracted to David and John's garden by a variety of feeders. Highly recommended. Thank you..

Always Enjoyable, Great Place To Stay
Stayed here on many occasions and still can't find any reasons to stay elsewhere in the area. Lovely rooms, always clean and tidy, comfortable beds, great views across the moor, fabulous breakfasts, ideal location, bus stop a few yards away, right on drakes trail so walks a must. Hosts are great. If your not sure where to stay then you should choose overcombe house and you will not be disappointed. But please don't choose the times we like to stay or we won't get a room lol. Booked up to stay again very soon.

Overcombe House Recommendation
Overcombe House is located in a quite lane with easy access to both Dartmoor and the surrounding towns and villages. I found the Owners of Overcombe House to be pleasant and willing to make sure that my stay was as comfortable as it could be. The property was clean and my room contained all the usual things a guest would need. Breakfast was excellent with a full choice tailored to suit each individual guest. I recomend Overcombe House unreservedly.

Enjoyable Stay September 2015
My wife and I enjoyed a very pleasant two nights stay at Overcombe House.

The room was a good size with a view, the bed very comfortable and the on suite excellent. The breakfast was very well cooked and everything presented to a very high standard. David and John were friendly hosts and made the stay most enjoyable.

The location proved quite handy for our son's graduation at Plymouth University.

Exceptional B&b
David and John welcomed us warmly and made sure had all the important information. The room was beautifully clean and tidy. There were little extras such as sweets and fresh water each day. Breakfast was a gourmet's delight. The only disappointment was that we had booked in for just 2 days, but will make sure we stay longer next time. Wonderful value for money. Thank you.

Perfect In Every Way........
Just on our last day at the overcombe, and after a three night stay, which was booked at very short notice, my partner and myself are so pleased we found this gem of a hotel by pure chance.

Proprietors David and John are two of the most warm and welcoming people we have ever met, they couldn,t do enough to make our stay a happy one, and have really made our holiday.

The beds are amazing and are the most comfortable we have slept in, in fact I will miss the comfort when I sleep in my own bed !

I Cannot find anything negative to say, amazing breakfast, clean spacious rooms, I could go and on.

If you are staying nearby, miss the delight at your peril !

Comfy Beds, Soft Towels, Scrumptious Breakfasts, Great Location & Fabulous
What a delightful gem Overcombe House was to find. We had a spacious twin room, with a great view. Comfortable large beds, cosy duvets and a generous size en-suite - everything was spotless. Free wifi. Breakfasts were first class, with a great variety on offer. John\'s mushrooms with thyme seasoning were so, so tasty. Well done fellows that you make the effort to source most things locally. Breakfasts made even more delightful, by gazing at the bird life David and John attract to their back garden by providing bird feeding stations. Alas we didn\'t see the resident hedgehog that also has a safe home in the garden. David & John are such obliging hosts, who do \'that extra\' to ensure one\'s stay is enjoyable. We booked Overcombe at short notice for 3 nights. Then were so lucky to be able to extend for a further 3 nights when we realised it was ideally located for us to use as a base to drive daily to explore different parts of Devon & Cornwall. With a bustop at the end of the street there is no need to have the hastle of driving and finding parking in the busy interesting towns of Plymouth & Tavistock - just relax and catch a bus. A variety of quaint pubs and restaurants to dine out in Horrabridge or near by villages. Thank you David and John for a memorable stay. Two lovely gents, with generous spirits who both have a wonderful infectious sense of humour.

Welcoming And Pleasant
My wife and I stayed here over a long weekend to attend a friend's wedding in the area.

David and John were more than accomodating and always willing to answer any questions I had before we arrived.

As soon as we arrived, David was greeting us and offering to help with all our bags and couldn't do enough for us.

Our room on the first floor was spotless and comfortable, with a lovely view over the back garden and part of the National Park.

Our first night we were after somewhere to go for dinner and once again David was more than happy to give us a few suggestions.

Breakfast was always good, with plenty of choice on cereal and fruit and yoghurt. Cooked was always on offer too, with not an over complicated menu. David and John were also happy to make custom breakfasts that were not on the menu too, as a couple of times I didn't want a full fry up and was happy to have beans on toast.

Whenever we saw John or David, we were always asked if there was anything we needed and greeted with a smile and friendly face.

My only criticism, which is tiny, is that pulling into the carpark is a bit tight and the gateway isn't very wide. This is not really due to any fault though and isn't something easily rectified. More just a word of caution to anyone who plans to visit.

All in all, a very good B&B. Would definately stay there again if visiting the area.Show less

Room Tip: Speak to John and David. They are more than happy to accomodate where they can.

An Excellent Stay
Proprietors David & John have got it right here. The room we had was very comfortable and spotless with every facility provided down to the shower gel and shampoo which were excellent quality. The breakfast was top quality and there was an excellent choice. Again, the dining room was well appointed and organised so that there was ample room between tables. The only area where an improvement could be made is on the outside of the hotel which is probably due for redecoration. But don't let this put you off because the internal decoration is excellent. We would certainly stay here again if visiting the area.

A Very Good B&b On Dartmoor
David & John who run this B&B were very welcoming and could not do enough to please and oblige. Our room on the first floor was spotless, of a good size, with a large bed in it and nice views of Dartmoor in the distance. As others have mentioned in their reviews, the breakfasts are terrific. As for things to do, well Tavistock is nearby as are several superb National Trust properties and, of course, Dartmoor itself.

Room Tip: In our view, worth paying a little extra for a room on the first floor with moor outlook.

The location is ideal for exploring the countryside; whether visiting nearby towns, places of interest, enjoying the walks or just taking in the amazing views.

David and John are most hospitable and friendly and take great care in ensuring their guests have a memorable and enjoyable stay.

Absolutely Fantastic Especially At Short Notice!
This gorgeous little B&B gets a 5* rather than a 4* review from us primarily due to it's incredible staff David and John!

We booked at extremely late notice due to needing a place to stay after a family tragedy before Christmas; and location for us to be with other family members was key.

Perhaps slightly on the pricey side (but I only say that as part of a young twenty-three year old couple), but we had a beautiful room, and David and John could not have done more for us!

Their warm and caring nature, plus their fabulous cooking skills, made the short period of time we stayed just brilliant!

Thank you!

Perfect B&b For A Break From The City And To Explore The National Park
My partner and I decided last minute to go for a couple of nights in the countryside to have a break from the city. We also wanted a gay friendly B&B and we were lucky to find this one. The owners were extremely friendly and waited for us as we arrived later than expected (because of the traffic). We got offered A fantastic room with the most amazing view on the park. The standard was really high, we had a great choice of tea and coffee, bottled water and everything you need. The room was very clean, spotless. I had cooked breakfast and I was really pleased to have the vegetarian option. Unfortunately I had it only the first morning as the second one I was feeling full, after a dinner the night before at a lovely pub that the owners had recommended. The location is really convenient as it is in the park and near Tavistock. We had exactly what we needed: good walks, good food, good night sleep in a comfortable bed, friendly environment, nice chats with the owners, peace and places to explore. We'll definitely come back. Simply The Best !
Just had a lovely six days with David and John at Overcombe House-our second visit and definitely not the last- the rooms have been upgraded and are first class- 6ft divans and beautifully decorated and spotless- hospitality trays always full of biscuits sweets coffee teabags etc. breakfast is excellent beautifully cooked and so much choice-- and those mushrooms are delicious. Horrabridge is a lovely Devon village on the edge of Dartmoor National Park--so you can walk or drive and be on the moor very quickly-- we cycled and it was great because the Drakes Trail- a traffic free cycling or walking route from Tavistock to Plymouth is on the doorstep so we did not use the car at all !! beautiful cycling with great views. To add to all these advantages the local public house in the village-The London Inn-serves very good evening meals-- beautiful fish and special dishes and it is only 5-10 minutes walk down into the village. we'll be back !!

I stayed here for three nights over Easter 2013. We used the house as a base for walking and coastal touring. Easy access to quick roads made a big difference to us. Our room was comfortable and roomy, with an excellent welcome. The breakfasts were brilliant, with local produce and perfectly cooked eggs every time! Hospitality trays in rooms were refreshed every day and full of fab goodies. It seemed as though a lot of thought had gone into making sure everything needed was available and the rooms were set up well and were really clean too. If I'm ever back in that neck of the woods, I'll use Overcombe House again.

David And John Are The Perfect Hosts!
I stayed at the Overcombe for 4 nights in Feb '13 while visiting friends in the area. Their 'disabled accessible' room was fine for my mild disability, with the shower directly onto the tiled floor. However, the rest of the bathroom would not be suitable for someone who is a full-time wheelchair user. I heard that they are modernising the rooms one-by-one, so hopefully the facilities will be improved soon!

The breakfasts cooked by John were superb, and I began to wish I had more of an appetite in the mornings! Looking out of the dining room window to the magnificent wild bird tables, it was lovely to see such a variety of birds feeding and making themselves at home.

David was generous with his welcome, and made me feel relaxed and at home. Having fresh milk available for the tea and coffee (organic) in the bedrooms was a treat.

Thanks to them both for a lovely visit - will go again.

The hosts are very friendly and the breakfast is gorgeous! A truly homely place that feels warm and welcoming... and perfect for Dartmoor visits and beyond. Being with my 90 year old mobility-impaired dad, we used the room for disabled people, which offered all the facilities one would expect.

Owners, John and David, were welcoming and ever helpful.

Accommodation represents excellent value for money; clean, thoughtfully prepared, modern and sufficiently spacious.

If you find a better breakfast anywhere please let us know. The local produce used is just superb.

We believe a lot of thought has gone into Overcombe House and it shows. You would have to be unrealistically demanding to be disappointed.

Easy access to the moor and a lot of local attarctions.

Room Tip: Classic rooms upstairs offer great views over the moor.

I enjoyed a very pleasant and comfortable overnight stay on 9 July 2012. The accommodation and facilities were of a high standard and I was made to feel very welcome. There was also good advice about dining venues in the nearby attractive village centre, and the hotel is conveniently situated between Tavistock and Plymouth. I would certainly choose it again if ever touring in the area. Many thanks.

Our Stay At Overcombe
My partner and I booked a last minute short break at Overcombe House in mid July. The main asset that this place has is the owners, David and John, who are helpful, considerate and polite. Most of the rooms have had a makeover, apart from the twin one which we had but this did boast a bathroom whereas most of the other rooms had showers. The breakfasts were superb with a great choice of hot and cold food and as much to eat as you wanted. The rooms were all spotless and the boys recommended local eateries which were just right. The hotel is well located for Dartmoor and the market town of Tavistock and the city of Plymouth.

Just a couple of negatives. As mentioned before, the sound proofing could be a bit better, but maybe we notice other peoples noise more as we live in a detached house. It would be great to have a residents lounge as a place to sit and read the books and magazines that are supplied in abundance. Finally boys, please do something with the garden. It can be wildlife friendly and also provide a view for guests and a place for them to sit in the sunshine.

Excellent Stay
We stayed 2 nights. David and John couldn't have been more hospitable, their restaurant recommendations were spot-on, and their attention to every little detail was a delight. The guest house interior has been recently re-decorated, and the outside is just waiting for better weather to be completed. Our comfortable bedroom had wonderful views over Dartmoor, and the breakfast was one of the best I have had in any of the many hotels I have stayed in for business. Highly recommended.

A Very Good 4* Accompanies A Strong Recommendation
Marked in the literature as an hotel, Overcombe House has the feel of a guest-house. John and David are very attentive and worked very hard to ensure everything was to our satisfaction. Only the twin bedroom wheelchair-friendly room was available on booking, so the washroom served as a wet-room, so don't expect a power-shower. The room was of reasonable size, with good view of the Moor. Decor not very exciting for us, but would suit many people's tastes. Excellent quality breakfasts with the usual choice plus an excellent smoked haddock is definitely a strong feature of the guesthouse. Parking was a little tight, but ok.

At upper-budget price range (£75 prpn) expectations are not too high, and one or two slight niggles are not cause for disatisfaction at all. A little paint at the bottom of the wetroom walls, and a quick tidy-up in the back garden, and better sound-proofing (though not too bad) would have merited 5*; meanwhile a very good 4* accompanies a strong recommendation from us.

Stayed at many places over the years on dartmoor but after staying with David & John at Overcombe in Sept 11 we finally found a place we could return to. Stayed again in Feb 12 and booked to stay again. Food is great, rooms are clean and spacious and location is perfect Cant fault it for anything so far. Stayed A Week At Overcombe
My friend and I were in the area for a family wedding so Overcombe was our "home" for a week. And it really did feel that way. David and John were very engaging hosts. Since we were there so long, we had the same window table for breakfast daily, and we really enjoyed the delicious meals each morning. The rooms were meticulously clean and toiletries of high quality. Lots of attention to detail. Location is good for walking on the moors. We didn't have a car, so the convenience of a bus stop nearby was invaluable. Overcombe is a wonderful memory and we would stay there again.

They are also strong on recycling and caring for the environment. Breakfast is fantastic, all local produce and plenty of it! I will definitely be staying there again.

Room Tip: All the rooms are good but the "Moor/Classic" rooms have lovely views of Dartmoor.

Friendly Owners, Ideal Location For Walks, You Can Walk To 2 Pubs For Food And Nicely Priced
We stayed for 3 nights and the room had a view over the hills & was clean. John & David are very helpfull but not intrussive and they have incorporated little touches from other stays in hotels which make a difference.

The Hotel is ideally located for getting onto dartmoor. There are footpaths from the hotel out onto dartmoor but some routes require road walking in places. Off road parking so you can leave the car behind with no worries.

You can walk to a couple of pubs in the near village. Both provided food but the nearest of the two seemed to have a cheif that dsided when he wanted to stop cooking so I advice you book in that one for food.

Breakfasts were very good. great selection. I would definately recommend staying.

A Very Lovely And Relaxing Place To Stay On The Edge Of Dartmoor. Wonderful Dartmoor Views From Dining Room.
My partner and I spent 3 days over the New Year period of 2010/11 here. We were made very welcome by the owners David and John. The room was very comfortable and very clean. A very nice touch is that the owners provide fresh milk in a small fridge in the hallway making it possible to make a lovely cup of tea in your room without those awful little pots of long life milk that most hotels provide. The owners went out of their way to help us find somewhere to eat on New Year's Eve which was very kind of them. Nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is located four miles outside of Tavistock which is a really lovely old Devon market town with a very interesting indoor market.

The location of the hotel could not be better. It is very conveniently located. Both the north and south coasts of Devon and Cornwall are easily accesible not to mention being located on the edge of the spectaculary wild and wonderful Dartmoor.

The poached eggs with Hollandaise sauce on the breakfast menu was just divine!!!

Bed And Breakfast As It Should Be
We were travelling on what was the day of the 2010 Strictly Come Dancing television final. I happened to mention this to one of the proprietors, David, saying that we would be out in the evening so I would miss it. Unprompted, he straightaway offered to record it for me so I could watch it later on the DVD player in our room. You don't get service like that very often! Both David and John were utterly charming hosts. Nothing was too much trouble and they were exceptionally friendly and helpful without being 'in your face'.

In terms of facilities, the bed was to die for - such a deeply comfortable night's sleep - and there were lots of nice touches - cotton buds and cotton wool in the ensuite, quality biscuits with the tea making tray, locally produced milk for the room, and if you're into being eco-friendly then you're offered every opportunity to be so.

I can honestly say that breakfast the next morning was probably the best I've ever eaten in a B&B. Locally sourced produce and lovingly cooked to our exact specifications (which aren't always straightforward!). Discreet music playing (show tunes, which I personally love), plus lovely views out over the garden and up to Dartmoor from the dining room.

Would definitley recommend highly to others who are looking for a spotlessly clean, quiet, traditional-style B&B on the very edge of Dartmoor, yet within a couple of minutes walk of village pubs and facilties. Thank you David and John!

Lots to see in the area with something for everyone. A good selection of places to eat/drink in the evening to cover all tastes. The room was of a very high standard with en-suite bathroom. 'Attention to detail' is the key phrase here! Nothing is missed and lots of things you would not usually see at a B&B are found. For example: A huge choice of various teas, coffee, chocolate etc in the room. A breakfast menu that one would would expect to see in a five star hotel. Welcoming, Relaxed And The Best Breakfast We've Ever Had.
David and John go out of their way to make sure you enjoy your stay and leave wanting to return. They continue to see their business through the customer's eyes, so if they wouldn't put up with something inferior, neither will you. This was evident right down to the choice of (complimentary) hand wash/shower gel/shampoo in your room, which are available to buy because you will want to carry those fragrances with you! And did I mention breakfast?? - if anyone says the word I am transported back to their dining room. Top quality ingredients freshly cooked to your liking - yum, yum!

Great B&b, Best Breakfast
This is really a great bed and breakfast. The rooms are big with nice furniture and good coffee and tea making facilities. We had a room facing the street side (however there is still a garden between street and B&B) which may become a little bit loud due to traffic, but that was no problem during the night, so we had a good night of sleep.

The breakfast was really the best breakfast we have ever had. Well cooked, excellent tasting, really, that was an amazing experience. Just regarding the breakfast, I already would highly recommend that B&B. All in all it was a phantastic stay. The hosts are also very nice.
